This six-lesson curriculum was created to share background information and offer suggestions for study of the 19th Amendment and the women’s suffrage movement in the United States.

Designed for grades 9-12, the lessons are aligned with Iowa’s Social Studies Standards and allow for flexibility with consideration for a variety of classes. Lessons can be presented individually or as part of an ongoing unit. Selections of primary and secondary sources related to the 19th Amendment accompany each lesson.

The curriculum was developed by the Iowa 19th Amendment Centennial Commemoration Committee. It was updated in 2024 by the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics at Iowa State University
