Nominations for 2022 Women Impacting ISU calendar due Sept. 24

CATEGORIES: July 2021, Voices

Nominations are being accepted for the 2022 Women Impacting ISU calendar through Friday, Sept. 24, until 11:59 p.m.

The annual calendar, which was first published in 2007, highlights the accomplishments and achievements of 12 women currently on the Iowa State campus as students, faculty, professional and scientific staff, or merit staff.

The calendar is open to all individuals who identify as a woman, inclusive of cisgender and transgender identities. Faculty and staff must be employed by Iowa State University for the 2022 calendar year to be eligible for nomination. Students graduating in May 2022 may be nominated.

Instructions on how to nominate someone and a link to the online nomination form are available on the Catt Center’s website. You do not need to be employed by Iowa State or be an Iowa State student to submit a nomination.

“The Women Impacting ISU calendar is a tribute to current students, faculty and staff who have inspired us with their accomplishments at Iowa State,” said Sue Cloud, who oversees the nomination, selection, publication and recognition process as the communications specialist at the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics. “We encourage you to look at the achievements of women across the Iowa State community – students, faculty, merit staff, and professional and scientific staff – and consider nominating someone whose impact really stands out.”

Selections are made by a committee composed of previous honorees, past nominators, students affiliated with the Catt Center, and staff and faculty members from across campus. When reviewing the nominations, the selection committee considers the nominees’ achievements in administration, teaching, research and/or service – depending on each nominee’s role at Iowa State – as well as their involvement in campus activities and mentoring.

“We get many strong nominations each year, and each year the committee remarks how difficult it was for them to narrow it down to just 12 women,” Cloud said. “Committee members have also commented on how uplifting it was to read about the accomplishments of the nominees.”

“What an honor it is to have an opportunity to see the amazing work our colleagues are doing, and knowing the impacts they are making on our students, our university, our community and our world,” said 2021 calendar committee member Chad Cardani-Trollinger, assistant teaching professor with the Leadership Studies Program.

If you are interested in serving on the 2022 selection committee, please let the Catt Center know by emailing srcloud@iastate.edu. In the fall, potential committee members will be contacted about their availability to attend two review meetings in October. Please note that if you nominate someone for the 2022 calendar, you will not be able to serve on the selection committee this year.

Funding for the calendar is provided by Iowa State’s Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion. Catt Center staff and student interns publicize and collect the nominations; organize and facilitate the review committee meeting; plan the recognition reception in January of each year; and design, order and distribute the calendars.

If you have questions about the calendar nomination process, you can check the frequently asked questions on the Catt Center’s website, or contact Sue Cloud by emailing srcloud@iastate.edu or calling (515) 294-9867.
