Research

The Catt Center fosters research on issues related to gender and politics through our own initiatives and by supporting other scholars. Research initiatives and opportunities include:

• Women in Iowa Politics Database – resource for government officials, researchers, teachers, and others with an interest in Iowa politics in general and the roles of women in Iowa politics in particular.
• Gender Balance Project – initiative examining the gender makeup of appointed county and municipal boards and commissions in Iowa.
• Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics – annual competition designed to encourage and reward scholars embarking on significant research in the area of gender and politics.
• Archives of Women’s Political Communication – online database housing speeches and political advertisements from U.S. and international women political leaders.
• Status of Women at Iowa State University – comprehensive analysis of the experiences and representation of women at Iowa State University.
• Undergraduate internships and graduate assistantships – paid internships for undergraduate students in the fall and spring semesters; graduate assistantships sometimes available.
