If you’ve been on the Catt Center website recently, you will have noticed some changes and updates to website’s appearance and organization.
The site now uses the new university theme, with updated formatting and visual design options. In addition, the pages on the site have been re‑organized into four categories: research initiatives, civic engagement programming, recognition for women, and educational resources.
The “Research” section is where you will find pages for the Women in Iowa Politics Database, Gender Balance Project, Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics, and the center’s undergraduate internship program, as well as a link to the Archives of Women’s Political Communication website.
Something new for the Women in Iowa Politics Database is the data visualization tool, which can be used to create customized charts from the data and search for information on candidates in Iowa races for state and federal office since 2008.
The “Engagement” section contains pages for the Mary Louise Smith Chair in Women and Politics, Ready to Run® Iowa campaign training program, and Legacy of Heroines Scholarship Program, as well as links to the Voting FAQs for College Students and voting and civic engagement resources.
The “Recognizing Women” section includes pages for the Women Impacting ISU calendar and Toward a Universal Suffrage traveling museum exhibit, and a link to the Plaza of Heroines website.
The educational resources offered by the Catt Center are accessed in the “Education” section, including the high school curricula on the 19th Amendment and Equal Rights Amendment and the Toward a Universal Suffrage traveling exhibit. The Iowa Women’s Political Milestones timeline, previously called the Iowa Women’s Suffrage timeline, has been updated to include additional “firsts” and an expanded bibliography on Iowa women and politics.
