Welcome to your Career Coach GPT, a personalized AI coach designed to help you explore your core values, passions, and sense of purpose at work. This guide will show you how to get started, make the most of your experience, and integrate your insights into your career planning.

If you do not have an OpenAI account, please create one before getting started.

Get started

  1. Access your custom Career Coach.
  2. You will see a welcome message and conversation starter buttons like:
    • Help me discover which job activities feel the most fulfilling.
    • Help me figure out my core values and how I can use them at work.
    • Help me learn about what makes me feel most alive at work.
  3. Click a starter or type your own message to begin.
  4. The GPT will guide you through a conversation in three phases:
    • First, it will ask open-ended questions about your values, motivations, and interests.
    • Second, based on your answers, it will ask follow-up questions to help you reflect further.
    • At the end, it will summarize what you’ve shared and suggest a few career directions or themes.

Tips for a great experience

  • Have fun, but be honest and reflective.
  • Take your time with each question. Pause to think before replying.
  • You can ask the GPT follow-up questions like:
    • “Can you help me write a personal mission statement?”
    • “What roles match my values?”
  • Copy your responses into your journal or Career Vision Canvas.

After the conversation

  1. Review your transcript for key takeaways or repeated themes.
  2. Add your insights to your Digital Toolkit.
  3. Discuss with a mentor, colleague, or peer accountability partner.

Optional: Full prompt to use in a different AI program

If you would rather use a different AI program, try pasting this prompt:

“I want help exploring my career values, passions, and purpose. Please guide me through this in three stages:

  1. Start Broad: Ask open-ended questions about what matters most to me.
  2. Go Deeper: Ask follow-ups to explore why those things matter.
  3. Synthesize & Recommend: Summarize what you learned and suggest aligned roles.

Be conversational, thoughtful, and supportive — like a coach. Let’s begin!”
