Nomination Process

How do I nominate someone?

Online form here: Nominate a woman for the 2020 Women Impacting ISU calendar here

To successfully submit a nomination, you will need the following materials ready to upload:

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Optional: resume or CV

Deadline to submit a nomination is Sept. 27, 2019, at 11:59 p.m.

Before nominating someone, please check the list of previous honorees to make sure that she has not previously been honored.

Who is eligible to be nominated?
The calendar is open to individuals who identify their gender as “woman,” inclusive of cisgender and transgender identities. Any woman who is currently employed by Iowa State University or who is a current student at Iowa State University is eligible to be nominated. We are looking for women who have impacted Iowa State through campus involvement, in the classroom or community relationships; through outstanding service to their unit; and inspire women of all generations. Faculty and staff nominees must still be employed for the calendar year in which they would be honored. Seniors graduating in May of the calendar year in which they would be honored are eligible.

Can I nominate myself?
Self nominations will not be considered or reviewed.

Can I nominate a group/club/organization?
Nominations of organizations will not be reviewed.

I don’t work at Iowa State. Can I still nominate someone?
Yes! One does not have to work at or be associated with Iowa State University to nominate a woman currently employed at or attending Iowa State.

How are the nominations judged?
A committee of representatives from the Catt Center’s student programs, previous calendar honorees and additional members of the ISU community (a mix of faculty, staff, merit) review the nominations and select the honorees. The 12 women honored each year are selected strictly based on the quality of the written nomination. A different selection committee is formed each year.

How do I increase my nominee’s chances of being selected?
This is a very competitive process, so make sure that the letters of recommendation are compelling and emphasize the nominee’s contributions to campus life and her impact on others. Keep in mind the selection committee will be a mix of people from different disciplines across campus — not everyone will be familiar with abbreviations, etc. The 12 honorees are selected strictly based on the quality of the written nomination.

When will finalists be notified?
Honorees will be notified within a few days after being selected, in mid- to late October.

When and where is the reception?
An unveiling celebration is held each January to publicly honor the women selected to appear on the calendar. This reception is free and open to the public. The 2019 calendar reception was held on Jan. 16, 2019, from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Sun Room, Memorial Union. The half-hour program began at 4 p.m.

Where can I get a calendar?
Calendars are available at the unveiling celebration in January, immediately following the program. Calendars will be available at various campus locations, including the Catt Center (309 Catt Hall), Sloss House, Greenlee School (101 Hamilton), Department of Residence (1203 Friley), Beardshear Hall, and West Student Office Space in the Memorial Union. If you would like calendars for distribution at your campus office, contact the Catt Center.
